I can't speak for Destiny but I've found LAN to be no trouble at all personally on wireless setups. A relevant bit might be Outer Wilds, where in some of the dev interviews they mention both the player and autonomous camera probes have to be treated as equal instances for streaming and stuff, because you could be at one end of the world and have your probe at the other and both need to maintain full simulation of their surroundings (but the rendering itself is lightened by the probe only being able to take static pictures at a defined interval. It's not so much about the culling than about where you maintain a detailed game state.

Performance is dependent on the amount of stuff you draw, the culling itself is a tool to achieve that, so if the stuff drawn is the performance limiter you're gonna have to cull more aggressively (ie discard faraway or small objects), but also your game has to be able to manage multiple viewports (which it might due to other cases, like rearview mirrors or video cameras).
